Situated at Leeds General Infirmary the Breast Unit cares for 600 women who annually attend for surgery. The out-patient clinic treats more than 3,000 women each year, highlighting a real need for these dedicated services within the NHS.
The group have adopted the Snowdrop as their logo as a symbol of hope:
I thought I was mistaken when I thought I’d seen –
Snowdrops in the grasses, pale against the green …
The sky was dark and heavy, but back I went to see.
It was no illusion. They’d come, I felt, for me.
Quietly they struggled through the frosted clay –
With a secret message to speed me on my way …
These fairylike creations defying winter’s breath –
Had brought an angel message: Life lives.
There is no death.
