17th November 1926
Emott Rawdon Estate sold the land for the park to Haworth Urban District Council.

1st November 1921
"That Willie Moore be appointed lamplighter in place of Fred Smith resigned."

26 January 1929
Haworth park was completed; "Site an excellent one but laying out has proved difficult due to steepness. Cost £11,000 so bowling green deferred until later".

17th October 1930
Rawdon Trustees accepted an amended offer from the Council of £1,000 for the land behind Haworth Central Schools, to be used for playing fields.

2nd February 1932
The Clerk laid before the Council letter from the Vale Mills (Oakworth) Estate Co Ltd with respect to toll charges on Vale Mill Lane, intimating that they propose to free them during 1932, and suggesting public means of communication and transport between Haworth and Oakworth.

the that the application of Messrs. Jagger Bros for a Petroleum licence be approved, subject to agreement as to wooden erection being entered into and a payment of 1/-d shilling per year acknowledgement.

Application for supplies of electricity be granted viz; telephone exchange at 13 Earl St.

It was resolved that the Clerk communicate with the Unemployment Grants Committee, asking if they will be prepared to make a contribution towards the cost of purchase of land for Playing Fields, and, if so, what amount they are prepared to give.

The Clerk laid before the Council letter from the Council's solicitors with respect to the Land Drainage Act 1930, River Ouse Catchment Board Scheme. It was resolved that the Clerk communicate with the board asking as to how far the Council will be affected by the proposed scheme, and whether the provisions of the Airedale Drainage Act bring the Council within the scope of the scheme.

1st March, 1932
That the morning lighting of street lamps be discontinued after Saturday 20th February, 1932.

3rd May, 1932
the Clerk lay before the council letter from a resident, complaining against the building lately used as Fire Station North Street Haworth, which adjoins his property as a motor garage.

That painted notices requesting cleanliness be placed in both conveniences in Haworth Park.

7th June, 1932
It was resolved that the council give their consent to the erection by the Post Office Telegraphs of overhead telegraphs in Mytholmes Lane as agreed between the council and the Department.

That the Sewage Farm Manager be permitted to attend the Conference of the Association of Managers of Sewage Disposal Works, to be held at Lytham St Annes on July 7th 8th and 9th 1932, and that his out of pocket expenses be paid by the council.

It was resolved that the proposed grants towards the cost of the land for purchase of Playing Fields and lay out of the same, from the National Playing Fields Association in the sum of £35, and the Carnegie United Kingdom Trust in the sum of £115, in accordance with the conditions set out in the letters from the two associations dated December 24th, 1931, be accepted.

2nd August, 1932
That a petrol licence be granted to J. B. Snaith, of Bronte Garage, Sun Street, Haworth to store 500 gallons of petrol at the same address.

That permission be granted to the Haworth Institute to use the Haworth Park for their annual Sing on Sunday 28th August, 1932.

That the Council agree to the transfer of the Mill Hey Library Centre from the Council's Offices to the Haworth Institute.

6th September 1932
That the lighting Committee have full power to deal with the commencement of lighting for the ensuing lighting season and to appoint lamp lighter.

That the drinking fountain as at present erected by W A Jowett in Cross Roads Park be approved and that a similar fountain be erected in Haworth Park, the site to be decided upon.

Tennis Court Enclosure; No geese to be allowed on it.

That Mr Greenwood Waddington be recommended for appointment as a Traffic Commissioner for the appropriate panel, under the Road Traffic Act 1930, for one year from the 15th November next.

That the County Council's attention be drawn to the danger of the junction of Brow Road with Hebden Bridge Road, asking them to take down the wall 20 yards on the road to Oxenhope and for 15 yards down Brow Road, also that they be asked to erect railings; further that the County Council be also asked to take over the maintenance of Brow Road from the junction of Hebden Bridge Road down to Station Road.

It was resolved an intimation be given to the West Riding Education Committee that the Playing Fields are now open for senior scholars attending elementary schools in the Council's District.

The that the council accept the invitation of the Haworth Operatic Society to attend performance of "Young Imeson" at the Haworth Institute on Wednesday 12th October.

4th October, 1932
That notices be posted offering £1 Reward to anyone giving information leading to the conviction of any person breaking Gas Lamps.

That the approval of the Sub-Committee in appointing W. E. Jessop as lamplighter at a wage of £2 -2-0 per week for the forthcoming season to be confirmed.

That the Parks Superintendent be instructed to purchase bulbs for both Parks, up to an amount not exceeding £8.

That the Parks Superintendent remove Geese from the Tennis Court enclosure at the Haworth Park, for one day, afterwards that he be allowed to run Geese on the Tennis Court enclosure, on condition that the paths are kept clean.

1st November, 1932
That the Ducking Well be taken out, and the land straightened up. That the Parks Committee instructed to look into the question of providing some suitable position to install the Ducking Well.

6th December, 1932
The Sanitary Inspector reported that under section 17 of the Housing Act 1930, the dwelling house 71 Main Street, Haworth which is occupied or is of the type suitable for occupation by persons of the working classes, is in certain respects unfit for human habitation.

That the Parks Superintendent be allowed to have approximately 80 tons of soil removed from Ingrow to the Cross Roads Park and that he engage the necessary team labour, the loading to be done by "test" labour.

That the application of Mr G W Waite, for permission to install a Radio Relay Service in the Council's District be granted.

That the early morning lighting of street lamps, at essential points in the District, commence on Thursday December 8th 1932 inclusive.

The chairman laid before the meeting a letter which he had received from the Employment Exchange, Keighley with respect to effort on behalf of the unemployed with a view to obtaining for them, one two or more days work during the period 10th to 17th December, 1932, in order that they may have a few more shillings to spend and thus brighten Christmas for themselves and their families.

7th February 1933
That steps be taken by the Parks Committee to recommend a site for the provision of a bowling green in Haworth Park, also the preparation of estimates of cost, taking into account any unemployed labour that may be available .

23rd March 1933
That the Clerk be instructed to communicate with the owners of Tripe Dressing Establishments in the Council's District drawing attention to trade refuse from such establishments been allowed to find its way into the Council's sewers, with the consequent effect of clogging the filters at the Sewage Farm, and ask that steps be taken to prevent such refuse from travelling down the sewers, failing which the Council will be compelled to take further proceedings.

That a letter be sent to Fowl Keepers in the vicinity of Haworth Park, complaining of Fowls straying into the Park, and stating that if the nuisance complained of is not remedied, the Council will deem it necessary to take proceedings.

4th April 1933
It was resolved that the Changegate Radio Relay Service be granted permission to fix brackets on the chimneys of various houses belonging to the council in Mytholmes Lane, subject to any damage which they may do, being repaired at the expense of the company.

It was resolved that a further contract with Mr G H Hall for scavenging required in the Council's District be entered into to 31st March 1934 in the sum of £120 per annum.

2nd May, 1933
That the Police Authorities be asked to exercise discretionary power in moving motor cars and vehicles standing in Mill Hey, between the point where the road narrows (immediately above W Waddingtons shop) to the Bank premises opposite Railway Station.

The Chairman laid before the Council, petition which he had received from residents along Mill Hey, asking the Council to protest to the West Riding County Council in providing a footpath on the east side of the street. It was resolved that the petition be forwarded to the West Riding County Council, with a request for their observations thereon.

4th July, 1933
That as from June 28th 1933 the price of the Council's Coke be reduced to 21s 8d per ton.

That a female attendant be advertised for, to serve in the Gas Show Room, and that such advertisement require applicants to state age, experience and wages required.

That the application of the Rev. J G Hirst for use of the Haworth Park for religious services be granted, subject to the services being an organised effort of all the religious bodies in the District, that the services be limited to two Sunday evenings during the present summer, no collections to be taken.

That the consideration of the proposed Bowling Green for Haworth Park be deferred until the next meeting, the surveyor to prepare amended plan of position, and estimate of cost.

8th August 1933
That the attention of the Police be called to the trespassing and damage done at the Council's Sewage Farm, Damems.

5th September 1933
That the old Ducking Stone be placed in Haworth Park, between Butt Lane and the end of the pavilion.

That a sign "Dangerous Hill" be fixed at the junction of Hebden Road with Brow Road and that application being made to the County Council for such sign.

The Police reported a case of stealing old brass from the Council's Tip Lees. It was resolved that proceedings be taken against the offender

3rd October, 1933
The Clerk laid before the Council request from the Secretary of the Bronte Society with respect to provision of fire hydrant for use in case of need in connection with the Bronte museum property.

7th November 1933
That the Parks Superintendent ask the proprietor of the Park Cafe to remove the soil which he has piled up against the Park railings. That an estimate be obtained for the necessary repairs to the putting green flags and sticks.

That the provision of Bowling Green in Haworth Park be left with the Parks Committee to carry out as they may decide and in accordance with scheme submitted to the council.

6th March 1934
That the estimate of the cost of repairing and maintaining the District Roads for the year ending March 31st 1935 is the sum of £890 be approved.

Suggested that if the County Council would erect two special danger signals on either side of Hebden Bridge Road (Brow Top Road junction) to slow the traffic up a little.


22nd March 1934
That the land on Hebden Road belonging to the County Council be accepted as a gift from the County Council and that the built up base on the land be removed.

5th April 1934
The clerk laid before the Council letter from the West Riding County Council with respect to the
review of County Districts suggesting that the Haworth, Oakworth and Oxenhope Councils should meet, and suggest the division of the proposed amalgamated Districts into wards.

The Clerk laid before the council letter from the Keighley, Bingley and Shipley joint Hospital Board drawing attention to the prevalence of diphtheria in the district. It was resolved that a handbill be prepared and distributed.

24th April 1934
The chairman reported on interview held this morning with respect to proposed agreement for the taking over of Providence Lane.

5th June 1934
The Sanitary Inspector reported pursuant to section 36 of the Public Health Act 1895 that the under mentioned house is without sufficient water closet, earth closet and an ash pit furnished with proper doors and coverings viz:- 3 Ruth St Lees Haworth

On the recommendations of the parks committee it was unanimously resolved that the tender of Messrs. Sutcliffe Bros Bradford for alterations to the Park Gates in Haworth Park, be accepted in the sum of £13-10-0

That the surveyor prepares a scheme for provision of children's Playing Field equipment in the Cross Roads Park.

17th September 1934
That the plan of proposed houses to be built on Brow Road estate to be made up of 2 semi-detached house and a block of 8 houses to be approved.

4th June 1935
That twopence per tail for rats killed on the council tip at Brow Moor Haworth by Mr Bob Francis be paid to him.

2nd July 1935
That the recommendations of the waterworks sub committee with reference to water charges for water other than domestic purposes be adopted viz:-
1) That baths in private houses not to be charged for.
2) That Butchers who use the councils water without paying for same either by water rate or by special charge be charged at the rate of 7/6d per year.
3) That in the case of urinals that steps be taken to enforce the councils charges.
4) That Blacksmiths be not charged for water, only through water rate assessment.
5) Pig Keeper to pay councils charge of 2/6d per annum.
6) That Professional Photographers be required to pay 20/- per year.
7) Houses: That the councils charges be enforced. If the accounts not paid that supply of water be discontinued.
8) Hose pipes: Charge 10/- per year.
9) Hairdressers: Charge 10/- per year.
10) Cattle Troughs: If the council charges are not paid forthwith that the supply of water be cut off.
11) Motor Wagons: £1-11-2 water rate on garages be considered sufficient to cover any water supplied for motor wagons.

6th August 1935
The Clerk laid before the council letter from Mr J.H. Pandoe, Rawdon Estate, with respect to Mytholmes Lane improvement, stating that he will be prepared to advise the Rawdon Estate to accept the sum of £750 to include:-
1) Two houses and outbuildings and garden.
2) Old building occupied as cobbler's shop.
3) Large barn and stable for 7 horses adjoining.

It was resolved that it be referred to the Highways Committee for further consideration.

That the plan of parapet wall in connection with the bowling green in Haworth Park be approved.

That the Parks Superintendent obtain pieces and samples of seeds for sowing the bowling green in Haworth Park, and that he bring these to the Council Meeting on 6th August 1935.

That a letter be sent to the Police authorities requesting that in cases of fire occurring in the Councils District, before they communicate with the Keighley Corporation Fire Brigade, they first communicate with the Haworth Fire Brigade and ascertain if they are in a position to deal with outbreak.

7th July 1936
The clerk reported receipt of letter from the National Playing Fields Association, stating that the Executive Committee of the Association have decided to recommend a grant towards the Haworth Park Children's Equipment Fund, but at the present time the Playing Fields Association is unable to consider any fresh application but immediately they are in a position to do so, the application will be forwarded.
