About Haworth West Lane Baptist Amateur Operatic Society
The Society perform a Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta every November and a Spring concert in May. There are more than 50 members and we meet every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm from early March to late November to rehearse for the productions. We also enjoy social activities and would welcome new members who would like to join the singing cast or to help back stage. Our social activities for this year include a quiz night, a canal boat cruise, an evening with Ian Dewhirst and our annual dinner. We have many young people in our society and we would welcome even more.
Our next Gilbert and Sullivan production is Iolanthe from 15th to 20th November 2010.

In November 2009 the Society produced The Gondoliers, directed by Michael Lofthuse. As usual Michael used his amazing creative skills to bring an operetta, originally written to take place in 1750, up to date and set in the 1960's. With a young cast of principals, this worked very well and was thoroughly enjoyed each night by a packed audience. In May 2010 we enjoyed our Spring Concert entitled 'Around the world in 80 minutes....and a bit more besides' This was a musical journey of songs from around the world. There was opportunities throughout the evening for the audience to sing a long with The Society, which was enjoyed by all. The talented members also entertained the audience with humurous sketches, songs, conjuring tricks and monologues which all added to the fun and entertaining evening.
