Entries Open for the Keighley BIGK 10K
Fundraisers at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice this week launched the 6th annual Keighley BigK 10K which will be held as always on Mothers’ day, Sunday 10 March starting in Victoria Park Keighley.
Last year the event attracted a record field of over 950 starters and raised over £49,000 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice who organise the event in conjunction with Sport Keighley. This year organisers hope to exceed the number of runners and walkers who will tread the multi terrain route through the town’s roads, paths and parks.
Sue Ryder Events Fundraiser Andrew Wood explained that there has already been a great deal of interest in the event which has in five years established itself as Keighley’s largest mass participation sporting event.
Andrew said, “We’ve been very fortunate already with Leeds City College, Keighley Campus and White Rose Volkswagen at Kildwick being joined as main sponsors by Airedale Shopping Centre and Convenience Hire. Now we hope that people will again turn out in large numbers to support the vital work of the hospice and enjoy the challenge, inspired perhaps by Mo Farah’s Olympic 10k success.”
Andrew added, “We’re encouraging people to sign up early in case we reach our capacity and it is also in people’s interest to act quickly as the early bird adult entry rate is just £10 until 22 February when it rises to £12.
As last year there is a corporate team entry which entails the participation of five participants to encourage businesses, clubs and organisations to enter one or more teams. Corporate teams benefit from a special reduced entry rate, receive mentions by the race commentator, be acknowledged on the event website and display their company banner within Victoria Park on the day.
The event as always is held on Mothers’ day and organisers are asking people to run for or with their mum. In keeping with tradition every mother who participates will receive a carnation as well as a goody bag and T-shirt as they cross the finishing line.
For those wishing to train up for the event, don’t forget the Keighley & Craven AC “Begin Running” sessions for men, ladies and children of all ages and standards at 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays from the University Academy Keighley site, for more information contact www.kcac.co.uk
