Description:
Top Withens pointing north. The star trails are due to the length of the exposure which was 30 minutes duration. The circular effect is because the Pole star Polaris, is always at due north and remains static when observed. The illusion of stars radiating is created as the Earth rotates around this point.
The photo was taken on a clear night with no moon as it is necessary to have as little light as possible. Unfortunately there is much light pollution coming in from the right from the nearby towns and cities.

An example of the stars radiating out where there is virtually no light pollution can be see on the picture right (click on thumbnail) taken at Mull Scotland. The exposure was one hour duration, the lights in the cottage were put on for just 5 seconds to create some foreground detail
