The seven-spot ladybird is the most common type, there are 40 types in the UK. Their markings are a warning to predators that they contain alkaloid poisons.

Ladybirds are a gardeners friend as they and their larvae eat aphids, eggs are laid on plants infested with aphid.

Ladybirds will migrate to the UK from the continent.
