Cinnabar Moth caterpillar

Cinnabar Moth caterpillar - July - Haworth

Cinnabar Moth caterpillar

The caterpillar of the Cinnabar moth can be seen on ragwort coltsfoot and groundsel chewing at the plant. The caterpillars store the poison as they eat the leaves which is passed on through to chrysalis and finally to butterfly. Predators such as birds soon learn not to eat them!
