Harvestman

Harvestman - August - Haworth

Harvestman

The Harvestman (Phalangium opilio) may look like a spider but it isn't one, it belongs to the group Opiliones which are closely related to Arachnids. Unlike spiders Harvestmen have a one-piece body, the head and thorax are attached to its abdomen. Harvestmen do not make webs nor do they have poison. They can defend themselves from attack by secreting a strong smelling fluid.

There are about 26 species of harvestmen in Britain.

Body Length 4mm
