If you missed the transit, the next time it happens in the UK is on Dec 11th 2117! There is a transit on 6th June 2012 but will only be visible in the Pacific, Australasia and Eastern Asia.
Remember NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN. Do not attempt to photograph the sun with a camera as you are likely to damage the equipment, you will need special filters.
