haworth news29/01/2004 - Gardening Club - cheque to Yorkshire Air Ambulance

29 January 2004
Haworth Primary School Gardening Club presented a cheque for £650.00 to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance . This was raised at the sponsored graveyard tidy at St Michael and All Angels church in November 2003.

haworth news26/01/2004 - Gardening Club - cheque for Manorlands

26 January 2004
Haworth Primary School Gardening Club presented a cheque to Manorlands for £650.00. This was raised at the sponsored graveyard tidy at St Michael and All Angels church in November 2003.

Receiving the cheque was Jodie Shepherd from Manorlands with Reverend Jenny Savage, Steve Thorpe from Haworth Gardening Club and Helen Thompson from Haworth Primary School.

haworth news14/12/2003 - Pete Waterman in Haworth

The BBC are filming Songs of Praise on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway and at the Torchlight Procession on Main St Haworth.

Pete Waterman record producer, who has worked with stars such as Kylie Minogue and is a judge on Pop Idols, took part in the torchlight procession and proved very popular entertaining the crowd on Haworth Main St.

The Songs of Praise programme, is on BBC1 on Sunday 28 December 2003 at 5.10pm

On 15th December Pete Waterman presented a Fairtrade certificate to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway more...

haworth news29/11/2003 - Sponsored graveyard tidy

Steve Thorpe and Haworth gardening club with local volunteers did a sponsored graveyard tidy at St Michael and All Angels church to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Manorlands.

The weather was appalling, raining for most of the day, but this did not prevent work, they managed to uncover gravestones that had been hidden for years.

The gardening club have so far raised a fantastic £1,034!

haworth news04/11/2003 - BBC Big Read - Bronte Novels

The BBC are filming at the Parsonage tonight as part of their Big Read programme which has Charlotte Brontes "Jane Eyre" and Emily Brontes "Wuthering Heights" in the top 21 novels of all time.

There are various programmes scheduled on BBC TV, culminating with the results of the favourite novel as voted for by the public on December 13th 2003.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte was No. 10, just ahead of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte at No. 12. The winner was The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien.

haworth news29/10/2003 - Haworth Fair Trade Award

Haworth Fair Trade was presented with an award in recognition of their achievements during Fairtrade Fortnight. The award known as "The Fairies" was for the imaginative way the group promoted the Fairtrade mark.

haworth news04/09/2003 - Gardening Award

Steve Thorpe and the children from Haworth Primary School gardening club have won the Sir Richard Graham Youth Enterprise Award, from the prestigious Yorkshire in Bloom competition. 

On the 24th of August at the Haworth, Oxenhope, Lees & Cross Roads Gardeners And Allotment Holders Association Flower and Vegetable show  they won two trophies, six first places, four second places and two third places. The trophies were the Harold Greenwood Cup and the Woodlands Cup.

Last week ten stone carvings have been placed on Penistone Hill, they are the work of Martin Heron. The title of the Sculptures is "Literary Landscape".

They can be found in two places along the footpath that leads off Dimple Lane on to Penistone.

haworth news04/07/2003 - Bronte Spirit

Bronte Spirit: Haworth Church and Museum Partnership Project are holding an open meeting to discuss development of the Schoolroom on 7.30 Friday 11th July 2003 at the  Schoolroom  Church St, Haworth. All are welcome.

Haworth Parish Church and the Bronte Society are embarking on a joint project to restore and develop the Schoolroom, the building which stands between the Church and the Parsonage.

On completion it is hoped that the building will be able to offer a more extensive programme of events and facilities than at present and that the building will be fully used on a daily basis, and will be accessible to the community and people with disabilities.

As part of this development process they would like to consult the current and potential users of the building and would be grateful if you could spend time answering the following questions here (word document - opens in new window) – there will be a draw for all who fill in the questionnaire, if you would like to enter, please put your name and address at the end of the questions. The winner will receive a £10 voucher to spend in the Bronte Parsonage Shop.
